Thomas Hitzlsperger is hoping to repay the faith new club Everton have given him by scoring a few of his trademark long-range efforts in the Premier League this season.

The German midfielder, nicknamed ‘der Hammer’, has earned himself a reputation of scoring unstoppable long range efforts during his career.

And the former Aston Villa, Lazio and West Ham man, who made his Toffees debut as a late substitute in the 2-1 home win against Sunderland last weekend, is hoping he can do the same for Everton.

He told the Liverpool Echo: “Everybody was saying before the game, if I get the chance then have a shot on goal.

“One did fall for me but unfortunately I could not get it on target. I should have done better but there are more games to come and I will think about it carefully.”

The 30-year-old is on a short-term deal until January at Goodison Park and was pleased to finally make his first appearance for the club after two months of training.

“The whole time I have been here, it is such a good place to be and I want to play more and contribute more to the club’s success,” he added.

“I was delighted to get on to the pitch as I have been waiting to get a chance for a long time.

“I have been training with the lads for two months now and hopefully I will get more opportunities in the next few weeks.”
